Orthodontic FAQs

What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry focused on correcting tooth and jaw alignment to improve function and appearance.

When should I see an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an evaluation around the age of 7, but treatment can be successful at any age. In fact, many patients are teens and adults.

What types of treatment are available?

At Granite Peak Orthodontics, we offer traditional metal braces, LightForce full custom 3D printed braces, Invisalign® clear aligners and in some cased Granite Peak Aligners.

How long does treatment take?

Treatment time varies based on your individual needs, but most cases take 12–24 months.

Do braces hurt?

You may feel mild soreness when braces are first placed or adjusted, but this typically fades within a few days.

How do I care for my teeth during treatment?

  • Brush and floss daily

  • Use fluoride toothpaste

  • Avoid hard, sticky, and sugary foods

  • Keep up with regular dental visits

Do I still need to see my dentist?

Yes—regular dental checkups and cleanings are essential to keep your teeth healthy during orthodontic treatment.

Will braces affect sports or activities?

No—braces won’t stop you from participating in sports, music, or other activities. A mouthguard is recommended for contact sports.
